It is no secret around the Palisades WBL that the Brewers and Mariners don't like each other. Which is why a deal came as quite a surprise. Rumor has it an unhappy Nick Gallo demanded that he only be traded to Brewers to team up with his brother Joe. Transportation was going to be an issue and Gallo felt as though he was underutilized in the Mariners failed championship run.
The deal was a no-brainer for the Brewers, they get Nick Gallo for Chris Criscuolo, $100 and choice of one of two 2018 Brewer draft picks. The move makes sense for both teams. The Brewers once in rebuild mode now have a deep pitching staff that is capable of shutting out any team. Nick Gallo will bolster the line up with some much needed pop and they still have the third and fourth pick in the draft. Worst to first may be wishful thinking but a strong draft and an 18 game commitment from the new additions could have the Brewers back in the post season.
The Mariners did the deal out of desperation but have a history with Criscuolo. Criscuolo came up with the Mariners in 2015 and picked up two wins and hit two HRs in six games. If the Brewers fail to capitalize on their off-season moves the 2018 pick could also hold some value.
Will this deal soften the rift between the Brewers and Mariners? Probably not but it could intensify as the Mariners and Brewers can't prove it on the field until they meet on the last day of the 2017 season.
